Norfolk Tides 0, Lehigh Valley IronPigs 4
The Tides racked up 8 hits last night but were not able to score even one run. Trayvon Robinson was the only Tide who didn't reach base. Xavier Avery didn't get a hit, but he did draw two walks. Ryan Flaherty had two singles, and every other batter had one hit. Only Luis Exposito was able to get extra bases with his 4th inning double.
Chris Jones started for the Tides and pitched 2 2/3 innings. He gave up four runs (three earned) on three hits and three walks, with no strikeouts. Mike Belfiore and Adam Russell pitched the rest of the game. Belfiore gave up three hits with three strikeouts in 3 1/3 and Russell game up one hit and one walk with two strikeouts in 2 innings.
Tonight's game is at 6:35 with Zach Britton on the mound.
Bowie Baysox 4, Trenton Thunder 2
The Baysox fell into a 2-0 hole in the first inning but came back to beat the Trenton Thunder thanks in part to a big day by Steve Bumbry. Bumbry homered, was hit by a pitch and came in to score, and had an RBI single. Niuman Romero also had two hits and two RBI.
Devin Jones started for the Baysox and pitched 5 innings. He gave up both runs in the first on a home run by Tyler Austin, then pitched four more scoreless. His line: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K. Jason Gurka pitched three innings in relief with three strikeouts and two singles. Zech Zinicola gave up one single and got the save.
Knuckleballer Eddie Gamboa will pitch tonight for the Baysox. Game time is 6:35.
Frederick Keys 2, Salem Red Sox 3
Zach Petersime pitched two scoreless innings before giving up a three spot in the third. It was an ugly inning with two singles, a double, a walk, and a hit by pitch. He pitched two more innings for a final line of : 5 IP, 3 R, 2 BB, 6 K. Zach Fowler came on in relief and pitched three innings with just one hit and one walk. He struck out three.
The Keys two runs came on a solo home run by Jerome Pena and an RBI ground out by Travis Adair that knocked in Delvi Cid. Michael Ohlman DH'd and had two singles.
Tonight's game is at 6:00 and the starting pitcher will be another Zach, Zach Davies
Delmarva Shorebirds 4, Greensboro Grasshoppers 3
The Shorebirds went into the top of the 9th inning losing 2-1 and scored three runs to come from behind and beat the Grasshoppers.
Wynston Sawyer homered for the Shorebirds in the second inning and that was the only run in the game until the 7th, when Greensboro scored twice. Brady Wagner had a very good start for the Shorebirds, shutting out the Grasshoppers for six innings on just two hits and walk while striking out five. He was replaced by Miguel Chalas, who was wild. He walked a guy and hit a guy and both game in to score.
Sawyer started the ninth inning rally with a walk, followed by singles from Torsten Boss and Joel Hutter. With one out, Gregory Lorenzo singled in Sawyer, then Roderick Bernadina singled in Boss and Hutter to give the Shorebirds the lead.
Matt Price pitched the ninth for the Shorebirds and was not good, but he only gave up one run (on three singles and a walk) to seal the win.
Boss and Hutter both had two hits on the night, while Sawyer had a home run and two walks.
The Shorebirds play tonight at 7:00. Starting pitcher is TBD.
