Chris Davis injury: Slugger exits the game after hurting right knee

The Orioles aren't allowed to have nice things.

In case you missed it last night (and I'm guessing many of you did since it happened in the fifth inning of a west coast game), the recently named A.L. Player of the Month, Chris Davis, had to leave the game after injuring his right knee running to first base.

Davis is scheduled to get an MRI on Saturday morning to determine the extent of the damage. Hopefully it'll only keep him hobbled for a few days, because if Davis has to miss significant time, I don't think I need to tell you how terrible that would be for the team. The backup first baseman on the roster is Steve Pearce, who is just barely good enough to make the major-league roster.

Britt Ghiroli had the following quote from Davis after the game:

My knee kind of buckled. Felt a tingling in my foot, thought I could walk it off. Went down the stairs, tried to go down the stairs, couldn't go down the stairs. We'll see how it goes. Everything was intact. ... Hopefully, it will just be a couple days.

If Davis has to go on the disabled list, I would expect to see Russ Canzler called up from AAA Norfolk to replace him. Canzler has been playing well in the minors and unlike Travis Ishikawa, he is already on the forty-man roster.
