Minor league notes for May 3rd and 4th

Trent Howard ought to be movin' on up soon

Didn't see any AtM update for the Friday games, so I'll throw 'em in here

Lexington (Royals) 6, Delmarva 3

Josh Hader took the bump against a stacked Lexington squad and performed rather admirably. 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 4 BBs, 5 Ks. Over 5 Starts now, he's sporting a nifty 1.40 ERA over 25.2 IP. BBs are a bit high (12), but the Ks (21) are good, he's inducing grounders at a nice rate (1.25 GO/FO rate), and he is death on lefties (1 H, 3 BBs, 1 R, and 9 Ks over 23 faced).

Lex Rutledge made his first appearance of the season in relief, going 1.2 IP, 1 H, 2 BBs, 1 WP, 1 HBP, and K'ing 4. Intriguing bullpen arm to keep track of.

(CF) Gregory Lorenzo may have went 0-3, w/ 1 K but he also drew 2 BBs and stole 2 bases. (1B) Christian Walker went 1-5, w/ 1 run.

Frederick 4, Carolina (Indians) 3, 11 innings

Tim Berry was hittable, giving up 7 hits, 3 walks, 3 ERs, and K'ing 3 over 6 IP. 2 of those hits (a triple and a single) were allowed to uber-prospect Francisco Lindor. Can't get fat on the crappy A-ball players if you want to see your prospect start rise, Tim. Gotta beat the good ones too.

With Delmonico still out due to the concussion he suffered, there really aren't much of any intriguing offensive prospects in Frederick. Both Glynn Davis and Brenden Webb are struggling. Sigh...#FreeChristianWalker

Bowie 8, Akron (Indians) 2

(RP) Clay Schrader did Clay Schrader things. To wit: 48 pitches over 2 IP. 0 H, 3 BBs, 1 WP, and 2 Ks.

Xavier Avery went 1-4, w/ 1 BB, 2 Ks, 1 SB, 2 RsBI, and 1 run. Ty Kelly: 1-3, w/ a double, 2 BBs, 1 K, 1 RBI, and 1 run. Henry Urrutia: 2-4, w/ 2 doubles, 1 BB, and 3 RsBI. Really impressive start for Hammerin' Hank.

Syracuse (Nats) 2, Norfolk 8

Jair Jurrjens was quite impressive. 8 IP, 7H, 1 BB, 2 ER, 6 Ks. 92 pitches, 68 strikes. 4:10 GO:FO, though. That'll play in Harbor Park. Probably not in OPACY though.

Cult hero Lew Ford hit 2 solo HRs. Jonathan Schoop went 3-4, w/ 1 run.

SATURDAY GAMES

Charleston (Yankees) 2, Delmarva 3

Brady Wager put together another nice outing, his 2nd in his last 3 (both at home, fwiw). 6 IP, 4H, 1BB, 2 R (1ER), 6Ks. 7:3 GO:FO. Perhaps KLaw knew what he was talking about when he put him on his O's Top 10 list?

(CF) Gregory Lorenzo went 0-4, w/ 3 Ks but drew 1 BB and, as he is wont to do, stole a base afterwards, his 11th on the season. #FreeChristianWalker went 1-4, w/ 1 RBI. He is slashing .343/.421/.475. Good for 4th/7th/18th in the SAL. His .896 OPS is 10th in the league.

Frederick 7, Carolina (Indians) 4

Another bullpen arm to keep an eye on is Trent Howard. Tonight he went 4IP, 3H, 0R, 1BB, 2Ks. He now sports a 0.51 ERA and an 18:6 K:BB ratio over his 17.2 IP. Probably time to move the 23 year old lefty up to Bowie.

Brenden Webb got his average up over the .200 line by going 2-3, w/ 2 doubles and 1 BB. He also threw out a runner at the plate.

Bowie 3, Akron (Indians) 4

Watched part of this game on MiLB.tv. Eddie Gamboa broke off a few really impressive knucklers, but he also struggled with the pitch at times. 6 IP, 7H, 3 R (2 ER), 2 BBs, 2 WPs, 6 Ks. 98 pitches, 68 strikes. He can control his stuff, but when he doesn't, it's terrible. Intriguing stuff. Quite a workout for the catcher, though.

Ty Kelly: 0-4, w/ 1BB, 2 Ks, and 1 run. Also had a throwing error. Henry Urrutia: 3-4, w/ a double and 1 RBI. Over his 12 games he has slashed: .333/.407/.583 with 6 doubles, 2 HRs and a 9:6 K:BB ratio. #Sexy.

Syracuse (Nats) 9, Norfolk 1

The Tides took the night off. Zach Britton went 6IP, 10H, 5R (3ER), 1BB, 4Ks. 10:1 GO:FO ratio. The defense committed 5 errors on the night. Ugh. Hoes, Valencia, Ishikawa, and Navarro (2) were the culprits.

Jason Pridie hit an FUHR. Jonathan Schoop went 0-3.
