In his last start, Miguel Gonzalez had to leave the game early due to a blister on his right thumb. Reports since then have been optimistic that Gonzalez might be able to make his next start or be pushed back only a couple of days. Today, the Orioles placed him on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 4, meaning he will be eligible to return as soon as May 18.
Alex Burnett has been recalled from Norfolk and will probably sit in the bullpen until Gonzalez's turn in the rotation comes up again, at which point he'll be optioned for a convenient minor leaguer, which MASN's Roch Kubatko notes could be Steve Johnson. Burnett did not appear in a game in his previous stint with the Orioles. If all goes well with the starting rotation, he won't appear in one in this stint either.
Gonzalez has gone 2-2 with a 4.38 ERA in six starts this season.
