Hunter Harvey is the son of former All Star Closer for the Angels, Bryan Harvey. So, nice bloodlines there. He attended Bandys High School in Catabwa, North Carolina. He was ranked as the 7th best RHP in the draft and the 28th overall talent. The 18 year old right-handed pitcher currently stands 6'3" and is listed at 175 lbs. That's a nice frame to start from that should in time fill out into a strong Starter's build. Some added bulk could add a tick to his fastball, which currently sits in the low 90s, but has been reported (grain of salt needed) as touching 97 at one point. The other primary weapon in his repertoire is a Plus Curveball that could improve even more with professional instruction. He'll need to work on his Control / Command and develop a 3rd pitch (likely a Change Up), but this is to be expected of most high school pitchers. This is a high upside / high risk pick by Gary Rajsich and Dan Duquette, and will take a few years to pay off.
