The Baltimore Orioles ended May with a 31-24 record, which is a .564 winning percentage. They began the month of June in third place, 1/2 game behind the second-place New York Yankees and 1 1/2 games behind the Red Sox in the A.L. East. At the end of the month they had lost a game on the division leaders (they are now 2 1/2 games out) but have moved into second place and put some distance between themselves and the rest of the division. The formerly second-place Yankees have fallen to fourth place and the third place Rays are 3 1/2 games behind the Orioles.
June Stats:
- Record:16-12
- 130 runs scored (4.64 runs per game)
- 125 runs allowed (4.46 runs per game)
- Their longest losing streak was 4 and their longest winning streak was 4. The winning streak is intact into July.
- They played 9 series in June and they were 6-2-1 (same as in May, weirdly).
- The most runs they scored in May was 13, which they did against the Tigers on June 19th. They hit double digits in runs three times, the other two being a 10-7 win against the Rays and the beatdown they gave the Yankees on Saturday night.
- The must runs they gave up was 13 on June 23rd against the Blue Jays.
- They had just one shutout in June, a 2-0 victory over the Red Sox on June 14th.
- They were shut out once, a 8-0 loss to the Rays on June 8th.
The Hot Hitters
Chris Davis -.290/.336/.692 with 12 HR, 7 2B, 6 BB. Not as other worldly as his May numbers, but still pretty great.
Ryan Flaherty -.297/.333/.486 in 74 AB. 3 BB, 4 HR, 2 2B. He even threw in one stolen base for good measure.
J.J. Hardy -.324/.364/.520 with 5 HR, 5 2B, and most impressively for J.J., 7 BB.
Manny Machado - .303/.325/.437 with 1 HR, 13 2B, and 3 BB.
The Cold Hitters
Matt Wieters -.225/.274/.371 with 6 BB, 3 HR, and 2 2B.
Nate McLouth -.255/.327/.357 with 2 HR, 4 2B, 9 BB and 7 SB/3 CS. Not a horrible month, but his OBP dropped 18 points and his stolen bases curtailed quite a bit.
Adam Jones -.237/.248/.386 with 4 HR, 5 2B, and no walks. His batting average is coming back down to normal and without any walks his OBP is tumbling with it.
Nick Markakis -.229/.268/.305 with 1 HR, 5 2B, and 6 BB. These numbers totally shocked me. I knew he was down, but woah.
The Bench
Chris Dickerson -10-for-43 with 2 BB and 3 2B.
Alexi Casilla - 7-for-21 with 3 BB, 1 2B, 1 3B, and 1 HR.
Steve Pearce (DL) - 5-for17 with 0 BB and 0 XBH
Danny Valencia - 9-for-36 with 3 BB, 3 2B, and 2 HR. He didn't get on base much (.308 OBP) but when he did, he hit it far (.500 SLG)
Taylor Teagarden - 3-for-18 with 2 HR and 0 BB
