As j.q. higgins jet sets about the Pacific Northwest, yours truly steps up to the plate for a pinch hit appearance

Intense stare. Michael Ohlman has it.

Futures Game: World 2, U.S. 4

(LHP) Eduardo Rodriguez pitched a clean, 1-2-3 6th inning for the World squad. He induced a lineout, a popout (by Christian Walker), and a K. 8 pitches, 5 strikes. (1B) Christian Walker came on in the 6th and ended up going 0-2, w/ a popout and a K. (RF) Henry Urrutia evidently put on an impressive batting practice, to such an extent that he even garnered a twitter nod from noted O's hater Keith Law. He would go 0-3, w/ 1 BB in the actual game.

Charlotte (White Sox) 10, Norfolk 2

Zach Britton got the start. And it looks like he'll likely be getting another start or two for Norfolk before he can get back to the majors. 4 IP, 5 H (1 HR), 5 BBs, 1 HBP, 7 ER, 2 Ks. 87 pitches, 48 strikes. 8 groundouts to 2 fly outs. Kevin Gausman came on in relief / as a tandem starter and was much more effective. 4 IP, 5 H, 0 BBs, 1 ER, 6 Ks, 1 WP. 48 pitches, 37 strikes. On offense, Jerome O'Bryan Hoes went 2-4, w/ his 24th Double. He has now hit 24 Doubles in each of the past 3 seasons. Alex Liddi and Yamaico Navarro hit back-to-back solo HRs.

Richmond (Giants) 2, Bowie 7

I like it when (3B) Brandon Waring hits Home Runs. I also happen to like Home Runs of the 3 Run variety. Brandon Waring hit 2 3-Run HRs today. I like that very much. He also drew a walk. (LHP) Jake Petit started on the mound and pitched well. 6 IP, 6 H (1 HR), 3 BBs, 2 ER, 6 Ks. Interesting future LOOGY option, Andy Loomis pitched a clean inning of relief, K'ing 2.

Carolina (Indians) 5, Frederick 3

(RHP) Julio Rodriguez had a marginally better outing than he did in his last start. 5 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 4 ER, 4 Ks. (LHP) Ashur Tolliver has hit the ground running following his promotion to High-A: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 2 Ks. 5 ground outs to 1 fly out. ( C ) Michael Ohlman keeps on keepin' on. 1-4, w/ his 11th HR, a solo shot, and an RBI FC where he a) hit the ball towards RF with a runner on 3rd w/ 1 out and b) beat out the potential double play relay to keep the inning alive and allow the run to score. That's just good baseball all around. He was 1/3 in throwing out runners on the basepaths. Nick Delmonico DH'd and went 1-4. One of DD's Indy League Army, (UTL) Tucker Nathans now has 4 consecutive multi-hit games. He did, though, commit an Error playing at 3B and was Picked Off. Side note: the umps in this game were named Valentine and Day, respectively. That's cute.

Delmarva 4, Lexington (Royals) 5

(LHP) Bennett Parry (whom I can't seem to disassociate from my mind a notion that he's a Dominican for some reason) continues to make himself more and more interesting. 4 IP, 3 H, 3 BBs, 1 ER, 7 Ks today. He's a 40th Round selection out of Cal State Northridge in the '11 Draft. (1B/OF) Creede Simpson, playing 1B today (and possibly auditioning for the 1B opening in Frederick now that Christian Walker will be promoted next week) went 1-4, w/ a 3-Run HR.

Williamsport (Phillies) 8, Aberdeen 7

Unlike Bennett Parry, (RHP) Janser Sverino is actually of Dominican origin. He didn't have it today: 2.2 IP, 5 H, 4 BBs, 6 R (4 ER), 1 WP, 1 K. Fellow Dominican (RHP) Alex Santana came on and pitched 2 scoreless innings, allowing 3 BBs and 1 HBP, while K'ing 3. He has an 11.2 IP scoreless streak going. Hulking (1B) Trey Mancini put up a 3-5, w/ 2 Doubles and an RBI bloop single. (RF) Conner Bierfeldt and his tight pants went 2-4 w/ a 3B and 2 RsBI. (CF) Mike Yastrzemski went 2-4, w/ a Run, and RBI, and a CS. (3B) Hector Veloz had the day off.

DSL O's 1 Squad: Lost both ends of a Double Header

18 y/o Curacaoian (RHP) Wendell Floranus pitched 5 innings, allowing 5 H (1 HR), 2 ER while K'ing 2. Playing 2B in one game and CF in the other, Alexander Mercedes went 1-8 in total, w/ a 3B. (DH/OF) Victor Medina went 5-6, w/ a 2B and 2 RsBI in all.
