Week 15 Birds Up, O's Down (July 8-14)

Pitchers

Jairo Asencio

Got his first O's callup, and didn't fare so well. The double in his first appearance was followed by 2 Ks, but his outing Saturday was, well, yeesh.

Wei-Yin Chen

Picked up right where he left off. Chen went 7.0 IP, allowed just 1 run on 3 hits, and gave O's fans a reason to hope in the second half of the season.

Scott Feldman

As good as he was Sunday (7.1 IP, 3 ER, 7 K.1BB), that's how bad he was Monday (5.1 IP, 7 ER with 2 HBP).

Miguel Gonzalez

One great start this week, with 6.2 IP and just 1 ER allowed against the heavy hitters for Texas.

Jason Hammel

He was horrendous on Saturday (6.0 IP with 6 ER ad 10 hits). Zach Britton's clunker of a start in AAA on Sunday may have bought him some time, but the clock has to be ticking.

Tommy Hunter

Good against Texas (just 1 hit in 30 IP over two games), not so good against Toronto (3 R, 6 H, 0 K in 2.0 IP over 2 games).

Jim Johnson

His innings aren't as clean as we'd like, but a 1-pitch save Saturday, a relatively easy save Sunday and a third while working around 3 hits in Texas is pretty good work.

Brian Matusz

Looked good in 2 games against Texas, not so good in his lone appearance against Toronto.

T.J. McFarland

Two appearances, 2.0 IP, just 1 hit. Seems to be finding his way after a detour in June.

Darren O'Day

Two good appearances balance out the one in Texas that wasn't.

Troy Patton

Didn't get the job down in his first two appearances this week. Saturday's clean inning against Toronto was needed.

Chris Tillman

He's an All-Star, and won a start he probably shouldn't have on Friday. The 5K/1BB split was nice to see. But those pitch counts, Chris...

He got called up, he got sent down, and never appeared in a game. Hope you enjoyed the per diem, Josh.

Zach Britton

Sent down after a start Tuesday, in which he gave up 5 ER in 5.0 IP. He followed that up by getting shelled in AAA on Sunday.

Kevin Gausman

Appeared in one game, went 1.2 IP and gave up 2 ER on 2 H and 2 BB with 0 K. Not gonna cut it, Donut Boy. Back to AAA with you.

Didn't appear in a game, since Matt Wieters will be getting four days off this week.

Another week, another sub-.300 OBP. The home run was nice, but a .227 BA for the week is becoming far too common.

Went 0-2 in his only action this week.

Chris Davis

Let's see, he homered in four straight games. Yeah, that's an up arrow. Even with the CS on Saturday.

Ryan Flaherty

Appeared in two games, with 1 AB in each. Went 1-for-2.

J.J. Hardy

Went 5-for-20 going into Sunday's game, but drove in 5 runs. He's keeping that .250 BA with pop streak going.

Manny Machado

Hit 8 for 26 going into Sunday, with a triple and HR, but some bad, bad strikeouts. Still, he's an All-Star at age 21. How cool is that?

Brian Roberts

He's basically JJ Hardy, as he also had 5 RBI and a HR around a .250 AVG for the week. Is he a lead-off hitter or a #9 hitter, a 2B or a DH? So many questions...

Outfielders

Chris Dickerson
