Chris Tillman (14-3, 3.73 ERA) vs. Patrick Corbin (12-3, 2.36 ERA)
The Orioles had a golden opportunity last night. While the Red Sox won, the Rays, Rangers, Tigers, and A's all lost. They could have gained valuable ground. Instead they lost the game in extra innings after a blown save. After a 4-1 trip to California, they need to win today to come home with a winning road trip.
If they want to avoid the sweep they'll need to do it against Patrick Corbin. Corbin is in his second big-league season and is having a fantastic year. In 156 1/3 innings this year (an average of 6.7 innings/start), Corbin has a 2.36 ERA. Not too shabby. For those of you who like the FIP better than the ERA, it puts him at 3.11. Worse, but still very good. He has pitched less than six innings exactly once this season, and he's pitched 7 or more innings in 11 of his 23 starts.
Did I mention he's left handed?
The Orioles counter with Chris Tillman, who is coming off of a fantastic start against the Giants in which he pitched 8 innings and struck out 9. He did give up one homer, becaues what's a Tillman start without at least one solo home run?
I'm somewhat confident in Tillman's ability to keep the Orioles in the game. I'm less so about the offense, which is capable of either scoring 15 runs or getting completely shut down. And I don't even know how I'll react if I see Jim Johnson (which I'm pretty sure I won't).
Here are your lineups:
