Orioles vs Athletics lineups and preview

It's a very important rubber match and the Orioles have to face a rookie. Scary.

Joy R. Absalon-USA TODAY Sports

It was previously reported that Miguel Gonzalez would be starting today, but it's actually Scott Feldman. Feldman is coming off of two starts in which he didn't give up many runs but didn't last too long into the game. Luckily, after Chris Tillman's eight-inning gem last night the bullpen has a day's rest other than Darren O'Day.

Pitching for the Athletics is rookie Sonny Gray, the A's first round draft pick in 2011. Grey has just five games experience in the big leagues the last three of which have been starts. He hasn't started against a good team yet, pitching 6 innings with 4 runs (2 earned) against the Blue Jays, eight shutout innings against the Astros, and seven innings with two runs allowed against the Mariners.

Gray has a sparkling 1.44 ERA on the season though he's benefitted in his very short major league career from a .169 BABIP. So far he's racked up a high strikeout rate and a high ground ball rate, which makes it feel like the Orioles won't have much success against him. Given their rapidly disappearing season, winning today is pretty much the only acceptable option.
