Hope you enjoyed a little R & R last night, as the Orioles now embark on a stretch of 20 games in 20 days. And only 1 more off-day for the club through the end of the season. How badly does this squad wish to make a return trip to the Postseason? We'll likely find out over the next 3 weeks.

All in all, not a bad off night for the Birds in terms of the standings. Both TB & NYY lost, so the O's gain a game in the Wild Card chase on the former and add some additional cushion between themselves and the latter. Unfortunately, Detroit was unable to fell Oakland, in spite of Miguel Cabrera's 43rd Home Run of the season. Pretty amazing that he's have a much better season than last year, and he may not win the Triple Crown. Or...he may just. But a certain beloved Norse deity will have a say in such matters.

Tough luck for the Mets. Losing a decent young pitcher to injury.

School of Roch: A few notes on Orioles' 2014 schedule
Sounds like a good excuse to finally make a roadie out to PNC Park

It was reported that Seattle has finally gotten around to placing Morse on revocable waivers. Though he's been dreck since coming off the D.L. Is this perchance who the Honey Badger has been coveting? Or, perhaps the O's are the team (unannounced as of yet) that put in a claim on Kendrys Morales yesterday?

Or noodley appendages, perhaps.

Kinda weird to think that I'd much rather see BriBob at the top of the order right now than Nicky. Oh, Nicky....sigh....

The AL East ain’t what it used to be
Man...the AL East sure sucked for a long time. Not, of course, in terms of talent. But in terms of interest.

On this date in 1961, (RHP) Milt Pappas shuts out the Twins 3-0. He allows just 2 hits while getting 2 hits of his own at the plate; 2 homers, that is. In 1970, (LHP) Mike Cuellar notches his 20th win of the season. In 1973, behind a Complete Game effort from the aforementioned Cuellar, the O's win their 14th consecutive game, defeating the Rangers 6-1.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Jim Thome!
