Game 137: Orioles (77-69) @ Blue Jays (67-79), 7:07

The Orioles head to Toronto Friday night looking to keep their dimming playoff hopes alive. Jason Hammel starts for the O's and Todd Redmond starts for the Blue Jays.

The Orioles cannot lose another game to get back to last year's record. What are the chances they win 16 games in a row? Yeah, about that...

Toronto has felt like a disastrous place for the O's in recent years. Everywhere has been disastrous this year compared to last year, though. Faced with this kind of must-win atmosphere, the Orioles have Steve Clevenger making his first start. It's always nice to root for a Baltimore kid, but really? Hey, maybe he'll do well against righty Todd Redmond. That would be the same Redmond who was briefly an Oriole. He has a 4.40 ERA this season. Weird.

Jason Hammel makes a return to the O's rotation tonight for reasons unclear to everyone. Well, Bud Norris has some kind of thing where he's missing a start. Are we at the point where we're hoping Norris isn't seriously hurt? Yes, we are. Remember all that about must-win games? And Hammel is starting? Yeah, about that...

There's not a whole lot new to say about the team at this point. Henry Urrutia couldn't travel to Canada because of his visa so they've added Dan Johnson to the roster. Whatever. Maybe he'll do something this weekend. The team needs to fire on all cylinders, pronto. Whoever is there needs to do well and hopefully we will not see Jim Johnson any more.
