The O's decided to put in some work on Labor Day and were rewarded with their AL East competition taking the day off. Detroit, useless against the A's for the most part over the weekend, shutdown the Sox. And the Angels dealt a 5th straight loss to the reeling Rays. This brings the O's back to within 2 games of the 2nd Wild Card. The Yankees did manage to keep pace, and remain just a 0.5 game back of the O's. While Cleveland falls a game and a half back of the Birds. And out west, Texas and Oakland find themselves tied for the Division & the top Wild Card slot.
A number of good pitching matchups tonight: Tillman vs. Jimenez in Cleveland. Chris Sale vs. a scuffling of late Hiroki Kuroda in the Bronx. 19 game winner Max Scherzer faces Jon Lester in Beantown. And Matt Moore, recently returned from the D.L. goes against Jason Vargas who has been on a roll of late for the Halos.
Things look to line up perfectly for the O's tonight. So, of course, I have a feeling Lucy's gonna pull that football back and make us all feel embarrassed again.
Baltimore Orioles vs. Cleveland Indians - Recap - September 02, 2013 - ESPN
I'm liking having an honest-to-goodness strikeout pitcher in the rotation for once. That's 42 Ks in 7 starts over 39.2 IP for him as an O, now.

(Yonhap Interview) 'Perfectionist' baseball scout Poitevint values drive, work ethic in players
After last year's shenanigans I don't particularly care for him still being a part of the organization, but here he is. Still doing work in South Korea.
Bird Talk #44 - Talking Baltimore Orioles BaseballBaltimore Sports and Life
For you podcast listeners, the BS&L guys bring you their weekly installment of Bird Talk.
On this date in 1901, Joe McGinnity tosses 2 Complete Game victories for the old timey Birds, winning one and losing the other. Old Hoss Radbourn offers a subdued golf clap. In 1960, the O's hurled a 2nd consecutive shutout against the Yankees and took over 1st place. In 1979, the O's swept a double-header against the Blue Jays. Mike Flanagan (RIP) won his 20th game of the season in the second game. In 1999, Cal becomes the 20th player to hit 400 career HRs. And one year ago today, Joe Saunders retires the first 17 Blue Jays batters he faces en route to a 4-0 victory that pulls the O's to within 1 game of the Yankees for the Division lead.
Happy birthday to former O, Rene Gonzales and to former apparition and current O, Troy Patton!
