Wednesday Bird Droppings

The O's lose on a night when all of their rivals for the postseason win.

That seems a rather cruel way to watch the O's lose, if perchance you were one of the souls brave enough to stick with the game up to and through the 9th. I turned it off after the 7th. And turns out that was probably the better move.

A particularly devastating night for the Birds playoff hopes, as not only do they lose with their best pitcher on the mound, but the Yankees, Rays, Red Sox, and Kansas City (still lurking in the periphery) each win. The O's are now back in 4th place in the AL East, with a 1/2 game lead on the Tribe and are 1.5 games up on the Royals.

Special congratulations to the Pirates for notching their 81st victory last night, ending their long streak of losing seasons.

Playing with the O's could be fun, Adam...just sayin'.

On this date in 1969, the O's go into the 9th inning trailing 4-1. The game is tied via back-to-back-to-back HRs from Frank Robinson, Boog Powell, and Brooks Robinson. The O's go on to win via a double, sac fly, and infield hit. 1982, a 36 year old Jim Palmer one hits the Twins in a 3-0 victory.  Last season, the O's experienced a rain delay in Rogers Centre when the roof gets stuck and fails to close fully. Happy birthday, Doyle Alexander (part of the trade that brought Rick Dempsey, Tippy Martinez, and Scott McGregor to the O's).
