World Series Game 7 Thread: Giants (3-3) @ Royals (3-3), 8:07

The World Series is down to one final game before the offseason sets in. The Orioles are still not in the World Series.

Jamie Squire

One reason to root for the Giants in tonight's game is that the Orioles will no longer be the answer to the trivia question of what's the last home team to lose a World Series Game 7. That occurred in 1979. You know the story.

One reason to root for the Royals in tonight's game is... uh... well, American League solidarity? Solidarity with a team's fans who haven't won since 1985? I imagined I would feel bad for them before the playoffs began if they made it to the World Series, but they have the sympathy rooting interests of the entire rest of the country, so they surely don't need mine.

Also, it annoys me a great deal that the Royals usurped the long-suffering mantle when, in fact, they have won the World Series more recently than the Orioles.

So maybe they can just go ahead and play 17 innings, because this is the last baseball game that matters until April, and that sucks. It's about to be the offseason, where probably nothing will happen for Orioles fans because that's how Dan Duquette rolls, and that might not even be a bad thing, as we saw this past year where a largely dormant offseason turned into a couple of signings in February and then a 96-win season by the end of September. That was pretty fun.

Maybe Jarrod Dyson can get thrown out again. That would be fun.
