On this day in 1973, Al Bumbry was named AL Rookie of the Tear. In 1978, the O's completed the signing of RHP Steve Stone, who would go on to win 40 of his 85 starts for the O's and also the 1980 Cy Young Award. Good bit of business there. On the other side of the ledger, the O's lost standout reliever B.J. Ryan to the Blue Jays on this day in 2005. The 5 year $47 million contract was the largest ever given to a reliever at the time. Ryan had a great first season in Toronto and ruptured his UCL in the second season of the deal. The O's acquired Danny Valencia from the Red Sox on this day in 2012.
