The opportunities for the Orioles to introduce a newly-signed free agent who is a big deal are few and far between. On the occasions where they do, they make sure to televise the press conference where the player is introduced. That's what they are doing on Thursday morning with Ubaldo Jimenez, who signed a four-year, $50 million contract to join the Orioles. The last time they rolled out the cameras for a signing was for Tsuyoshi Wada, so, you know.
The press conference will air live on MASN and is supposed to begin at 9:30am. For anyone who is stuck at work and can't watch, I'll be transcribing the proceedings in the comments as best I can.
Jimenez has now signed both the longest and largest free agent contract the team has given to a pitcher, so the signing is certainly a big deal.
Often, these conferences offer no more than the assorted participants - probably Dan Duquette, Buck Showalter, and Jimenez - sounding off with platitudes about the situation. You never know when someone will slip and say something actually interesting.
