It is the birthday of brief O's Rich Hill and Phil Bradley. On this date in 1901, Baltimore Manager John McGraw attempts to circumvent baseball's collusion against black players by claiming a recently signed player, Charlie Grant, is of Native American descent. The gambit proved, unfortunately, unsuccessful. And Grant was banished back to play in the Negro leagues. 90 years later, Jim Palmer, attempting a post-Hall of Fame induction comeback, gives up 2 ER in 2 IP. He will retire again (but still without having given up a Grand Slam!) the next day.
