Orioles @ Phillies / Twins @ Orioles St. Patrick's Day game threads

The Orioles are in split-squad action on St. Patrick's Day, traveling to play the Phillies in the afternoon and hosting the Twins in the evening. Both games may end up getting rained out. Bummer, man.

UPDATE 2 4:15pm: The 7 o'clock game in Sarasota against the Twins has also been cancelled. At least the Orioles didn't waste anybody's time.

UPDATE: The 1 o'clock game in Clearwater against the Phillies has been cancelled.

The Orioles have some split-squad action set up for St. Patrick's Day, and they might even play one of the games. One team of Orioles is scheduled to play the Phillies in Clearwater at 1 o'clock. This game will be on Phillies TV and MLB.tv, except it's looking very rainy in the forecast for Clearwater, so don't hold your breath on getting any baseball accompaniment to your afternoon of green beer drinking. Please drink ... ... ... responsibly.

A few days ago, the reporters said that the Phillies weren't going to let the O's use a designated hitter in their game. This meant that Brian Matusz would be appearing at the plate. This is the same guy who bunted a ball off of his own face during a bunt drill two seasons ago. However, it seems the Phillies were just trolling, as they're using a designated hitter in their lineup. On short notice, the Orioles slapped Jack Cust into the DH spot for the game. Maybe even they expect to get rained out.

Since this is the road game, that's the boring lineup, anyway. Or am I supposed to take a lineup where Steve Pearce is the first baseman seriously? This is the game with Jonathan Schoop, though, who seems to be building momentum in his favor on getting onto the Opening Day roster and possibly even the Opening Day lineup.

This is the picture from Clearwater about an hour before first pitch:

Well, at least there's always the night game, right?

I'm starting to think I might be wearing this green Orioles shirt for nothing.
