Saturday sports open thread: O's @ Rays, March Madness, real baseball

Some guys in Orioles uniforms will play a baseball game that doesn't count on Saturday, even as the regular season has begun on another continent. There's also something about a basketball tournament. Maybe you've heard of it?

Half the world away, they have already played a real baseball game that counted. It started at 5 o'clock in the morning in civilized time and was played on a cricket ground, but it was real, actual, Major League Baseball. Back in this hemisphere, we have to settle for more of these exhibition facsimiles, where a team full of guys in Orioles uniforms will take on the Rays.

There is no television, because apparently there's no such thing as MASN going on the road in the spring. You can listen on the radio on either WBAL or the Rays radio network, though. Why anyone would want to listen to Rays radio is something I can't say I know the answer to. I'm just throwing the information out there. Do what you will.

Hopefully, Ubaldo Jimenez doesn't give us reason to regret that he's signed with the Orioles. It was not inspiring the first time he appeared in a spring game.

There's also this basketball tournament thing going on today. You might have heard of it. I've been told all of the billion dollar challenge brackets have been vanquished. One Twitter jokemeister noted that in the fine print, it says all losers have to pay Warren Buffett ten dollars, and that's why it's the billion dollar challenge, because he just made a billion dollars off of you. Even if that were somehow true, I wouldn't blame anybody for trying. If there was a billion-dollar lottery jackpot, I'd probably put $10 down on that.

Oh, and once we get into the night hours - 10pm, almost like a normal night game, only it's in Australia - there will be another real baseball game. This one figures to have 100% less Clayton Kershaw than the first one, but that's okay. There's possible snow in the forecast for Monday or something and we can watch real baseball from a different continent tonight. Life is cool.
