Norfolk Tides 7, Louisville Bats 10
The Tides appeared to be cruising to a 7-4 victory until Preston Guilmet took the mound in the bottom of the ninth. Guilmet's been generally solid by keeping the ball on the ground and missing bats, but tonight, Guilmet walked three batters and allowed three hits, one of which was a walk off grand slam to old pal Mike Costanzo. Former Tide Adam Russell vultured the win for the Bats.
Brian Ward had a big night as the journeyman catcher homered and drove in four runs. Alexi Casilla was 4-4.
Bowie Baysox 6, New Britain Rock Cats 5
It must have been Depth Guy Appreciation Night in Bowie. Matt Bischoff, Marcel Prado and Oliver Drake each took turns on the mound and took their respective knocks.
To continue the theme, Sharlon Schoop and Niuman Romero were responsible for the lion's share of the Baysox offense as the pair was 4-7 with four runs driven in. In terms of guys who might have an impact on a future major league team, Dariel Alvarez was 2-3 and Christian Walker walked once in four plate appearances. Walker has now been on base at least once in his last 25 games. Michael Ohlman also walked twice.
Frederick Keys 2, Potomac Nationals 7
Oh, Parker. The young Mr. Bridwell has had a nightmarish start to the season with one quality start in seven and he has allowed four or more earned runs four starts. He struck out six batters, so there's that. If that wasn't bad enough...
Matt Hobgood not right on the mound. Fastball not even topping 90 mph right now. Taken out of game
— Tucker Blair (@TuckerBlairON) May 9, 2014
What a bummer. Pitching in relief of Hobgood, Lex Rutledge allowed two runs in 2.2 IP. He's also now walked 15 batters this year in 14 IP.
The Keys were 0-6 with RISP. Glynn Davis, Adrian Marin and Lucas Herbst all stole bases and Brenden Webb doubled twice in his return to the lineup after a stay on the DL. Wynston Sawyer was hit by a pitch and ultimately replaced by Steel Russell...who allowed a passed ball.
Delmarva Shorebirds 6, Augusta GreenJackets 0
The Shorebirds shut out the GreenJackets for the second straight night. Last night it was Steven Brault, tonight it was fellow lefty Mitch Horacek. The Coloradan via Dartmouth went seven innings striking out seven batters and walking none. Can't ask for much more than that, but Horacek even picked off a pair of GreenJackets. David Richardson closed things out with two perfect innings.
Returning to action after a spell on the DL, Chance Sisco drove in a run and threw out two baserunners. Every Shorebird except for Trey Mancini had a hit...some even had two! Greg Lorenzo tripled, Connor Bierfeldt doubled and Mike Yastrzemski stole his seventh base of the year.
