Orioles Minor League Rundown: 6-14-14

Delmarva sweeps a double header and Frederick enjoys a nice starting pitching performance.

Norfolk 4 Syracuse (Nats) 1

Edgmer Escalona pitched a nifty 5 and 2/3rds innings, allowing just 4 hits and a lone walk to produce 1 earned run while he struck out 3. One way to keep (#Team) Steve Clevenger off the basepaths is for him to get ejected. And that is what he did int he 5th inning of this game after being called out on strikes. The Tides' bats remained a'slumbering until the they managed to tie the game in the 8th. A single followed by an error followed by another single loaded the bases with none out. But one run was all they would manage thanks to a GIDP. The situation was similar in the 9th (bases loaded none out) but this time the Tides managed to squeeze 3 runs out of their rally and put the game out of reach. Buck Britton drove in 2 of those runs with a 2 out double. Francisco Peguero and Brett Wallace also had doubles on the day.

Harrisburg (Nats) 8 Bowie 4

Everyone in the Baysox starting lineup had at least one hit, but 3 GIDPs and a  2 for 9 performance with runners in scoring position limited them to just 4 runs. Nolan Reimold continued his rehab with a 1 for 4 night, with that 1 hit being a double. He would later try to score on a single by Christian Walker but would be thrown out at the plate. Christian Walker was 1 for 2 with 2 walks drawn. Dariel Alvarez added a 1 for 4 effort, and Michael Ohlman knocked two hits in his 4 at bats, but also committed a TOOTBLAN by getting doubled off first on a fly ball to CF. Starting pitcher Jake Petit was effective, going 6 inning while allowing 3 ER. But Chris Petrini let the game get away by giving up 5 ER in just a third of an inning.

Myrtle Beach (Rangers) 1 Frederick 5

Brady Wager tossed 7 innings of 1 run ball for the Keys, holding the Pelicans to 6 hits and 2 walks. Matt Hobgood pitched a clean 9th, striking out 1. Glynn Davis put in his typical day, getting 1 hit in 4 at bats. Tucker Nathans and Michael Burgess did the bulk of the work for the Keys offense, combining for 5 hits in 8 at bats, including a double and a HR. Adrian Marin went 0 for 4 with 3 Ks.

Delmarva 6 West Virginia (Pirates) 4 (Game 1/Final 7 innings)

Have yourself a day, Mike Yastrzemski! 2 for 4 with a SB, both of his hits were solo HRs. Just needed an OF Assist to make the day complete, but alas...there were none to be had. Trey Mancini and Austin Wynns added 2 hits and an RBI each. Steven Brault cruised through 6 innings before running into a bit of trouble in the 7th. He left the game with one out in the 7th, having allowed just 4 hits and no runs while K'ing 7. Dylan Rheault came on in relief and allowed both inherited runners to score, along with two of his own.

Delmarva 14 West Virginia 5 (Game 2/Final 7 innings)

As good as Yastrzemski looked in the first game, he looked equally bad in the 2nd: 0 for 5 with 4 Ks. ouch! He did, however, manage an Outfield Assist, doubling off a runner from 1st for a double play. So that's always cool. Chance Sisco is having a pretty great offensive season, bringing a 121 wRC+ into this game. That number went up after his 4 for 5, with 2 doubles performance. He drove in 4 and scored 2 twice himself. Conor Bierfeldt also drove in 4. He singled, doubled, and walked twice on the day. Drew Dosch went 3 for 4, got hit by a pitch, and scored 4 times. Trey Mancini was 1 for 3 with 2 walks drawn. Luis Gonzalez was the beneficiary of all that early run support, but he only managed 4 innings of work. He yielded 6 hits, 1 HBP, and 2 walks, but just 1 run.

Aberdeen 3 Hudson Valley (Tampa Bay) 4 (11 innings)

Stephen Tarpley made his 2014 debut and scuffled a bit. Over 4 innings he allowed 6 hits, including 2 HRs, while striking out 4. 20 year old RHP Dariel Delgado got off to a fast start with 6 Ks over 3 scoreless innings of work. 2014 draftee Jay Gonzalez did his best Mike Yastrzemski impression by going 0 for 5 with 3 Ks while throwing out a runner from CF for an Outfield Assist. I'm very much enjoying all these strong arms in the outfield for the affiliates. Hector Veloz went 2 for 4 with a double, but also got picked off 2nd base. Middle-of-the-diamond duo (2B) Ronarsy Ledesma and (SS) Byron Capellan combined to go 4 for 9 with a double and a HR. The former just turned 21 in April while the latter is still only 20.

DSL Rojos 5 DSL O'sUno 2

DSL O'sDos 4 DSL Yanquis 14

21 year old (SS) Richardo Andujar went 2 for 4 with a double and a stolen base. 18 year old (2B) Pedro Flores went 1 for 3 with 2 walks. Carlos Diaz went 3 for 5 in his game. 20 year old (INF) Sergio Lamas went 1 for 5 with a triple and 3 RBI. 19 year old (RF) Carlos Rodriguez went 3 for 5 and stole a base. 19 year old (CF) Carlos Jean recorded an Outfield Assist by doubling off a runner from 1st. 20 year old (RHP) Jose Rosario K'd 7 over 6 IP while allowing 3 runs (2 earned).
