Orioles Minor League Rundown: 6-16-14

Norfolk and Bowie with solid wins, while Aberdeen falls in 15.

Bert Hindman

Syracuse (Nationals) 4 Norfolk 5

(RHP) Suk-min Yoon continues to work his way back towards respectability with another quality start, his 3rd in his last 5 starts. 6 IP, 3 ER allowed via 7 hits and 1 walk on the night. He K'd 6, but as is his custom allowed 1 home run as well, the 9th straight start he has yielded a dinger. Yoon also managed to pick off a runner from first.

Julio Borbon and Quinten Berry paced the offense from the top of the order, collecting 5 combined hits in 8 at bats. Borbon added 2 stolen bases to his resume. Brett Wallace did the damage with a 2 run home run in the 1st inning. Buck Britton also homered. Steve Clevenger uncharacteristically went 0 for 4.

Bowie 3 Trenton (Yankees) 2

(RHP) Zach Davies with a very nice outing, going 6 IP of shutout pitching. He allowed 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. This marks his first solid outing since returning from the D.L. A nice sign. Nolan Reimold notched 2 hits in 3 at bats. Christian Walker went 2 for 4 with a walk and 2 RBI, giving him 61 driven in on the year now. Dariel Alvarez went 1 for 3 with a walk, but managed to get thrown out attempting to steal 2nd. Michael Ohlman reached base 4 times, once via hit and thrice via walk.

Aberdeen 1 Hudson Valley (Rays) 2 (15 innings)

7 Ironbird pitchers pitched in this marathon, with (LHP) Augey Bill and (LHP) Eric Green doing the bulk of the work. Bill got the start and went 4.2 IP, allowing 6 hits and a walk, but no runs. Green pitched the 11th-13th innings, striking out 6 without allowing a hit or run.

The offense had twice as many K's (14) as hits (7). Hector Veloz went 2 for 4 with a walk and 2 Ks. Jay Gonzalez went 1 for 6 with a walk and 3 Ks. Jonah Heim and Ronarsy Ledesma each with 0 for 6 nights. ouch.

DSL O'sUno 5 DSL Roja 7

18 year old RHP Angelo Palumbo pitched 2.2 innings and gave up 2 runs via 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 2. 19 year old OFer Luis Chaves fell a HR shy of the cycle and threw out a runner at 3rd base. (SS) Ricardo Andujar hit a triple and drew 3 walks, but also got himself picked off 1st and committed a throwing error. (2B) Gonzalo Galastica went 1 for 4 with 2 Ks.

DSL Yanquis 5 DSL O'sDos 2

(1B) Carlos Diaz may not be long for the DSL. 1 for 3 with a walk and 2 RBI in this game. He is currently slashing .304 / .439 / .391 over his first 57 plate appearances. He did miss a catch on defense though and was charged with an error. I wonder if they may move him up to the GCL when it opens up? 20 year old (LHP) Johalis Pacheco pitched well, going 5 innings while allowing just 1 hit and 1 earned run. He K'd 5 and walked 3.
