Norfolk Tides 0, Syracuse Chiefs 3
The Tides actually outhit the Chiefs six hits to three, but the Tides couldn't score any runs against Aaron Laffey. RF Francisco Peguero and 2B Alexi Casilla each had two hits, with Peguero hitting a double, while CF Julio Borbon and SS Jemile Weeks each singled, but that was all the offense the Tides could muster.
Chris Jones started for the Tides and pitched well. 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K. Brad Brach pitched two innings and gave up a two-run homer.
Bowie Baysox 3, Trenton Thunder 2
Eduardo Rodriguez was on the hill for the Baysox and gave up two runs on six hits in six innings. He didn't walk a batter and struck out four. Marcel Prado and Oliver Drake each pitched a scoreless inning in relief with Drake picking up his 15th save.
The Baysox got their offense from an unlikely place with home runs by SS Garabaz Rosa and LF Kyeong Kang. 1B Christian Walker had a singled and a walk, CF Dariel Alvarez was 1-for-4, and C Michael Ohlman was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
Aberdeen Ironbirds 1, Staten Island Yankees 0
With the short season just getting underway, the Ironbirds used four pitchers in their shutout, none of whom pitched more than three innings. Bennett Parry started and didn't give up a hit over two innings. He walked one and struck out three. Stefan Crighton, Brady Adamek, and Garrett Cortright all followed with scoreless outings.
Catcher Alex Murphy had two hits, including a double. LF Manny Hernandez was 1-for-2 with two walks, and RF Oswell Lartiguez doubled for the Ironbirds. Cory Segui, son of David, was in the lineup and went 0-for-4.
