The Orioles are off on this Thursday evening. They are waiting around in New York for their weekend series against the Yankees to begin on Friday. Since basically every team is nominally in the wild card race except for the bottom feeders, basically every game has some level of significance for the Orioles.
A few games were contested in the afternoon. The results:
Tigers 2, Royals 1
Detroit put an end to the Royals ten-game winning streak behind a strong start from Anibal Sanchez.
Indians 5, Angels 3, 10 innings
The Angels scored two runs in the top of the tenth inning, but Nick Swisher hit a grand slam in the bottom half of the inning to power Cleveland to the victory.
Pirates 4, Reds 3, 12 innings
Pittsburgh won on a walkoff walk. Presumably, the team will be going out for shrimp tonight.
Brewers-Diamondbacks was still being played as this post was being finished.
Tonight's schedule:
Mariners (37-35) @ Padres (30-42), 6:40
Starters: Erasmo Ramirez (SEA), Jesse Hahn (SD)
Blue Jays (41-32) @ Yankees (37-33), 7:05
Starters: Drew Hutchison (TOR), David Phelps (NY)
The Orioles are half a game behind the Yankees in the standings, but three games behind the Blue Jays. Either outcome helps them in some way, but getting closer to the division leader is probably the best outcome.
Braves (36-35) @ Nationals (37-33), 7:05
Starters: Gavin Floyd (ATL), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS)
Astros (32-41) @ Rays (28-45), 7:10
Starters: Collin McHugh (HOU), Chris Archer (TB)
Mets (32-40) @ Marlins (36-35), 7:10
Starters: Zach Wheeler (NY), Andrew Heaney (MIA)
White Sox (35-37) @ Twins (32-38), 8:10
Starters: Jose Quintana (CHI), Yohan Pino (MIN)
Phillies (32-38) @ Cardinals (39-33), 8:15
Starters: David Buchanan (PHI), Shelby Miller (STL)
Red Sox (34-38) @ Athletics (44-28), 10:05
Starters: Jake Peavy (BOS), Scott Kazmir (OAK)
Tonight's Orioles minor league games:
Triple-A Norfolk - already played and lost to Syracuse, 9-3. Edgmer Escalona gave up seven runs in four innings. Who knew Escalona was starting?

Low-A Delmarva - at home against the Lexington Legends to start the second half of their season at 7:05. Mitch Horacek starts for the Shorebirds.
