Orioles select OF Jay Gonzalez from Mount Olive University (NC) with tenth round pick, #301 overall

With their tenth round pick in the 2014 MLB Draft, the Orioles selected outfielder Jay Gonzalez from Mount Olive University in North Carolina. He is the fourth straight college senior that the Orioles have selected in the draft, and the second Gonzalez of the draft.

Gonzalez is listed at 5'11" and 180 lbs. He bats left-handed.

The slot value for this pick is $137,600.

In the annals of Orioles tenth rounders are names like Luis Matos (1996) and David Delucci (1995). How could Matos have been drafted so long ago? We're all older than we've ever been, and now we're even older.

Last year's tenth round pick was catcher Austin Wynns from Cal State University Fresno, who has been playing with the Delmarva Shorebirds season.

This is the last pick the Orioles will make on day 2 of the draft.
