Norfolk Tides 6, Scranton/WB RailRiders 12
Mike Wright had a rough go of it last night, giving up seven runs in 4 2/3 innings pitched. He got knocked around for 10 hits, including three home runs. His replacement, Tim Alderson, didn't fare any better. Alderson pitched 2 1/3 innings and was charged with four runs on seven hits. The final inning was pitched by second Buck Britton, who gave up a run on two doubles.
Steve Clevenger continues to take out his anger from being demoted on the poor pitchers of the International League. Clevenger had four hits last night, including a double. He has gone 13-for-30 since arriving in Norfolk. The other member of the Norfolk Chapter of Team Steve, Steve Lombardozzi, was 1-for-4. 1B Brett Wallace homered in the loss.
Bowie Baysox 6, Portland Sea Dogs 4
The Baysox prevailed despite making 5(!) errors last night. At least they spread the wealth as all five were made by different players. Jason Gurka started for Bowie and gave up two runs (both unearned) in 2 2/3 innings. His replacement, Marcel Prado, also gave up two runs (one unearned) in 2 2/3 inning. The Admiral Olliver Drake pitched a perfect 9th inning for his 12th save.
On offense, 1B Christian Walker was 1-for-5 with a home run. It was a good night for CF Dariel Alvarez, who was 3-for-5. And catcher Micheal Ohlman went 2-for-5 with a double. Both 2B David Adams and LF Kyeong Kang had two doubles.
Frederick Keys 5, Myrtle Beach Pelicans 0
The Keys shut out one of the best hitting teams they play against as pitcher Mark Blackmar pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings. He gave up five hits but did not allow a walk, and he struck out four. The recently returned from injury Matt Hobgood pitched the final 2 1/3 innings without allowing a baserunner.
LF Michael Burgess was the offensive hero for the Keys. Burgess had four hits, including a home run, and three RBI in the victory. CF Glynn Davis had a single and walk, and 2B Jerome Pena went 2-for-3 with a walk.
Delmarva Shorebirds 3, Lakewood BlueClaws 7
Luis Gonzalez pitched 5 2/3 innings with three runs allowed. He struck out four, walked one, and had a 6/3 ground out to fly out ratio. Not a great game, but not a bad game. Austin Urban came in to pitch in relief and was pretty good to start (thought he benefited from two runners being thrown out on the base paths), but he got into trouble in the 8th and was relieved by Dennis Torres, who walked in an inherited run, and then gave up three runs of his own the next inning.
On offense, 1B Trey Mancini, 3B Hector Veloz, and LF Anthony Vega all doubled for the Shorebirds. RF Mike Yastrzemski was the only Shorebird with more than one hit as he had three singles from the leadoff spot.
