Orioles minor league rundown - 7/9/14

Last night we had three wins, one loss, and a rain out.

Bert Hindman

Norfolk Tides vs. Durham Bulls - PPD

Last night's game between the Tides and Bulls was postponed due to rain. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on August 29th.

Bowie Baysox 0, Harrisburg Senators 2

The Baysox were shut down last night by a starting pitcher named...Scott McGregor?! Wow, they should be ashamed of themselves. Old Scotty has to be 60 years old by now. Actually, this Scott McGregor is a 27 year old in AA with a career minor league ERA of over four, so maybe they should still feel a little bad.

DH Christian Walker was 0-for-3 with three strikeouts. CF Dariel Alvarez had a single, and Michael Ohlman did not play.

Eduardo Rodriguez didn't make it out of the fourth inning, pulled with the bases loaded and two outs. He gave up two runs on six hits and two walks, so he wasn't at his sharpest. Steve Hensley and Matt Bischoff finished out the game without allowing another run.

Frederick Keys 8, Salem Red Sox 1

LF Mike Yastrzemski just continues to hit. Last night he had a double and a triple with two RBI and two runs scored. DH Michael Burgess and C Zane Chavez also had two hits each. 1B Trey Mancini singled in four at bats.

Parker Bridwell pitched five innings with only one run allowed, but he walked five batters so we'll say he got a little lucky. I'm guessing the pitch count drove him from the game, but the box score doesn't show that.

Delmarva Shorebirds 3, West Virginia Power 2

Luis Gonzalez pitched five innings for the Shorebirds with two runs allowed. He gave up seven hits but didn't walk any. He also threw two wild pitches, but hey, it's the minors.

The Shorebirds had seven hits, one each by seven different guys in the lineup. The only extra base hit was a double by RF Anthony Vega. CF Josh Hart, 3B Drew Dosch, and C Chance Sisco all singled.

Aberdeen Ironbirds 2, Batavia Muckdogs 1

Where the heck is Batavia? Steve Johnson pitched two innings in rehab for the Ironbirds with no hits and one walk. Of the four relievers that followed, Nigel Nootbaar had the best night, pitching two innings with two innings with a single and two strikeouts.

The lineup was held to just five singles and one walk by the Mighty Muckdogs.
