MLB All-Star Game open thread: Adam Jones, Nelson Cruz ready to represent Baltimore Orioles in Minnesota

The AL and NL square off in the world's great exhibition contest, in which the outcome of an insanely coached roster full of players with no chance of appearing in the World Series determine homefield advantage in the World Series!

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the 2014 MLB All-Star Game.  Are you ready for a Fox Jeterslobberfest?  I'm not.  Are you ready for John Farrell (who has virtually no chance of making the World Series) to coach the squad that will determine homefield advantage for the World Series?  I'm not.  But enough negativity -- it's All-Star night!

Orioles fans can look forward to starts by Nelson Cruz and Adam Jones.  They're batting 6th and 7th and starting at DH and Center Field, respectively.  And once they're gone, so is the representation of the Orioles.  Matt Wieters, of course, also won the fan vote for starting catcher following a hot start to the season, but he'll be at the game as a supporter only following his season-ending surgery.  Wieters was replaced in the starting lineup by Salvador Perez via player ballot.

It's worth noting, even though the Orioles didn't have any player- or manager-elected reserves (with the only possible snub being Zack Britton), they were the only AL club with multiple fan-elected starters. The team has that to be proud of in terms of All-Star representation.

So, let's go American League!  Let's go Jones and Cruz!  Let's go early Derek Jeter substitution!  (Hey, a guy can dream.)
