Orioles minor league rundown - 7/18/14

There were three wins and two losses around Birdland last night. Oh, and did you know that Hunter Harvey is pretty good?

Norfolk Tides 3, Rochester Red Wings 2

The Tides walked off with two runs in the ninth innings thanks to a single from 2B Cord Phelps that scored both runs. Phelps was the offensive hero of the night as he had three hits, including a solo home run that accounted for the Tides' other run. CF Dariel Alvarez and 1B Christian Walker each singled in four plate appearances.

Josh Stinson started for the Tides and gave up both runs, though just one was earned. He struck out two and walked two in six innings. Brock Hutzinger pitched two scoreless innings and Robert Coello (a newcomer formerly of the Scranton/WB Rail Riders), pitched the final inning .

Bowie Baysox 0, Altoona Curve 3

The Baysox got just one hit last night. It was a double from Mike Yastrzemski, because of course it was. Kid can hit! Keyong Kang also walked and Niuman Romero reached on an error.

Anthony Vasquez gave up three runs in five innings. He walked three, which isn't great. Jake Pettit and Mychal Givens pitched three scoreless to finish the game.

Frederick Keys 4, Salem Red Sox 2

Parker Bridwell gave up just four hits in seven-plus innings, but he also walked four. He started the game shaky but then retired 12 batters in a row leading up to the eighth inning. He started the eighth with a walk and a single and was pulled from the game. The walk came around to score. So an up-and-down night for Bridwell to say the least.

On offense, SS Adrian Marin had three hits and CF Glynn Davis doubled and singled. LF Michael Burgess also doubled.

Delmarva Shorebirds 8, Hagerstown Suns 3

The Shorebirds had 17 hits in the contest, and it was something of a singles party with only two extra base hits, both doubles. 2B Josh Kemp had three hits, SS Jared Breen went hitless with a walk, and every other batter in the lineup had two hits. That includes DH Chance Sisco, C Austin Wynns, and RF Anthony Vega.

On top of all that, it was Hunter Harvey night! Harvey was awesome, as is so often the case. In five innings pitched he threw 71 pitches and gave up no runs on just two hits. He didn't walk a batter, he struck out eight, and he had a 5/1 groundout to flyout ratio. Someone promote that kid!

Aberdeen Ironbirds 3, Tri-City ValleyCats 7

Both Tanner Chleborad and Matthew Grimes were knocked around for the Ironbirds, with Chleborad giving up four tuns in 2 2/3 innings and Grimes two runs in 2 1/3 innings.

CF Oswill Lartiguez had two hits, including a double, and C Tanner Murphy also doubled. Usual catcher Alex Murphy was the DH and picked up a single.
