Orioles minor league rundown: 7-1-14

Christian Walker homers. The Ironbirds get their 2nd win. And the Tides score 11 but still lose.

Josh Stinson was bludgeoned for 5 ERs in the 1st inning. He was not brought back out for the 2nd. Randy Wolf was then smacked around for 7 R (5ER) over 2+ innings. Also wanting to get in on the action, Kelvin de la Cruz yielded 3 runs (2 earned) over 3.1 innings. Only Preston Guilmet did not get the memo, as he tossed 1.2 scoreless innings, striking out 3.

(SS) Ivan de Jesus put up a 4 for 5 day. (LF) Quintin Berry and (2B) Cord Phelps each knocked in 3 runs. (RF) Francisco Peguero went 2 for 5 with 2 ribbys.

Altoona (Pirates) 3 Bowie 4

(LHP) Tim Berry K'd 6 and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) over 5 innings of work. Christian Walker slugged his 19th HR of the season. Dariel Alvarez reached base twice, once via hit and once via walk; but was also caught attempting to swipe 2nd. Michael Ohlman belted a double and drove in 2.

Salem (Red Sox) 0 Frederick 3 Final / 5 innings (rain)

(RHP) Brady Wager allowed 5 singles over 5 innings, but no runs. Glynn Davis went 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored. Mike Yastrzemski did likewise, sans the run scored. Trey Mancini slugged a double, but would find himself straying too far off 2nd base as he got picked off.

Delmarva 2 Kannapolis (White Sox) 5

(LHP) Mitch Horacek K'd 9 over 4.1 innings, but also allowed 4 ERs. (RHP) Alex Santana came on to K 4 over 2.2 scoreless innings of relief. ( C ) Chance Sisco and (LF) Conor Bierfeldt each hit their 17th double of the season. (CF) Gregory Lorenzo took and 0 for 3 with 3 Ks.

Staten Island (Yankees) 4 Aberdeen 5

Huzzah! The Ironbirds doubled their season win total! 2014 draftees (RHP) Patrick Connaughton and (RHP) David Hess each made their debuts with 1 inning of scoreless pitching. The offense was paced by ( C ) Alex Murphy and (1B) Hector Veloz, who each hit a double and drove in 2 on the night. (DH) Jemile Weeks went 1 or 4 in the lead off slot.

GCL O's 0 GCL Red Sox 3

(LHP) Daniel Ayers walked 5 over 2.1 innings of work, but somehow managed to allow just 2 runs, none earned. (CF) Daniel Franco and (DH) Josh Hart went a combined 0 for 8 at the top of the order. (3B) Jomar Reyes and (2B) Ronarsy Ledesma each went 2 for 4.
