Orioles Minor League Rundown: 7-28-14

Late inning heroics for Norfolk. Bowie with a beatdown. Delmarva outlasted. And a typical night in Aberdeen.

Les Treagus/Norfolk Tides

Norfolk 6 Columbus (Cleveland) 5

(1B) Christian Walker hit a solo HR in the 9th to give Norfolk the lead as he continues to enjoy a hot start to his AAA career. (RF) Dariel Alvarez went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles. In his second game since returning from his rehab stint in the GCL, Henry Urrutia went 1 for 5.

In less optimistic news, (RHP) Steve Johnson lasted just 1.2 innings after allowing 3 ER via 5 hits, 2 walks, and a HBP.

Bowie 12 Akron (Cleveland) 4

The Baysox pounded out 20 hits and drew 7 walks, including four 3-hit performances and one 4-hit performance. (CF) Mike Yastrzemski went 1 for 5 with a walk. ( C ) Michael Ohlman went 3 for 5 with a walk. (LF) Glynn Davis managed a 3 for 4 night. (DH) Niuman Romero went 3 for 5 with a HR and a walk as his charmed season continues. The beneficiary of that generous run support was (LHP) Anthony Vasquez, who went 6 IP and allowed 4 ER via 6 hits while K'ing 4.

Delmarva 2 Hickory (Rangers) 3

(RHP) Steven Brault managed 5.2 scoreless innings before a walk and a double brought in Hickory's first run in the 6th. (RHP) Dylan Rheault came on and allowed runs in both the 7th & 8th to yield the lead to Hickory. (CF) Josh Hart is riding a 5 game hit streak after a 2 for 4 effort. (3B) Drew Dosch and ( DH ) Chance Sisco added a hit in 4 at bats each. (RF) Conor Bierfeldt hit a double and earned the Outfield Assist du jour.

Tri-City (Astros) 1 Aberdeen 0

Like clockwork, the Ironbirds displayed great pitching backed by no offense. (LHP) Stephen Tarpley went 6.1 scoreless innings, but was charged with the lone run of the game when the 'pen was unable to strand the inherited runner. He allowed 4 hits, 3 walks (1 intentional), 1 HBP, and K'd 4, while also picking two runners off 1B. He has combined to go 16.1 IP over his last 3 starts with 11 hits, 5 runs (3 earned), 7 walks, and 13 Ks in that span. As usual, the only significant offensive contribution came from (3B) Austin Anderson, who went 2 for 4.

There were 2 GCL & 2 DSL games as well
