The Baby Birds go 1-4 on an otherwise pleasant afternoon...

Joey Gardner

Norfolk Tides 5, Durham Bulls 7

The pitching was horrible, but some of the quad-A superstars at Norfolk kept this one interesting. Quintin Berry had a pair of doubles and Buck Britton also walked and doubled. I feel like Britton has always kind of been a Buck Showalter favorite and though he's been fairly useless against lefties since his promotion to Norfolk, he's slugging .515 against righties.

Bowie Baysox 2, Akron Rubber Ducks 7

Tim Berry allowed a homer and ten baserunners in six innings. Not exactly inspiring stuff, but he struck out four batters and walked one. I don't know. Could have been worse?

The power trio of Walker, Alvarez and Ohlman was held to a single and a walk, but I'm told there was a wicked drum solo.

Frederick Keys 6, Lynchburg Hillcats 3

Sebastian Vader made his Carolina League debut with a quality start and a win. Nothing leaps out at you stat-wise, but good on ya', kid.

Mike Yastrzemski, Glynn Davis, Michael Burgess and Brenden Webb all had two hit performances with Webb contributing a homer to the cause. While Webb has not exactly had a great season, he's another guy that's shown solid pop against righties.

Delmarva Shorebirds 2, Lakewood Blue Claws 6

This one had all the makings of good old fashioned pitching duel until Luc Rennie ran out of gas in the sixth. Rennie had only allowed a run and five hits up to that point, but departed having allowed five earned runs and ten hits in 5.2 innings. He didn't walk anyone or allow any homers and he struck out four. Williams Louico allowed one hit the rest of the way.

Chance Sisco hit two singles and tripled and is now slashing .400/.444/.640 in the early days of July. Josh Hart picked up his second hit since coming off the DL and Greg Lorenzo singled and walked. If anyone is having a better month than Sisco, it's THAT guy (.529/.579/.824...sss, yeah, I know).

Aberdeen Ironbirds 0, Brooklyn Cyclones 7

Not a lot of positives to glean from this one. The Ironbirds were two hit by the Cyclones and Nigel Nootbar got shellacked (2 IP, 6 H, 4 ER). John Means and Derrick Bleecker pitched scoreless outings.
