Frederick and Delmarva get rained out, leaving just 3 games among the upper level affialiates

Bill Vaughan

Norfolk 5 Buffalo (Blue Jays) 7

Steve Johnson's tragic 2014 season continues apace after getting blasted for 6 ER over 2 IP yesterday. He allowed 2 dingers and walked 4 in the process. The offense made the affair somewhat intriguing with a 4 run 9th inning. Christian Walker went 1 for 4 with a walk. Steve Clevenger drew a walk but otherwise went 0 for 4. Dariel Alvarez led off (first I recall him do so) and went 1 for 5.

Bowie 0 New Britain (Twins) 2

Eddie Gamboa managed to escape the 1st inning unscathed in spite of 3 walks. And would ultimately go on to toss 7 effective innings. He K'd 7 in total, allowed only 4 hits, and walked none after that 1st inning, but did allow a 2 run HR in the 4th, committed a balk, and chucked 3 wild pitches. Mike Yastzemski followed up an 0-5 w/ 1 K night in his previous game with an 0-4, 3 K night in this game. The Baysox as a group managed just 4 hits, 1 walk, and 1 HBP to 8 Ks on the night, hence the shutout.

Aberdeen 0 Vermont (A's) 6

The Ironbirds' offense decided to do the Baysox one better, for as a group they managed just 3 hits and 1 walk vs. 10 Ks. Tanner Chleborad did his best Steve Johnson impression, also yielding 6 ER over 2 IP. Nigel Nootbar tossed 4 shutout innings of relief. So there's that to end with on a somewhat brighter note.
