Norfolk 3 Charlotte (White Sox) 5
Steve Johnson allowed just 1 run, via a solo HR, over the first 3.2 innings. After that it became a bullpen game. Robert Coello gave up the goose in the 11th by allowing a walk-off 2 run HR. Dariel Alvarez extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single. He is slashing .362 / .400 / .553 in that span. Christian Walker singled in the 4th to snap an 0-10 streak. Henry Urrutia went 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored.
Bowie 2 Richmond (Giants) 7
Eddie Gamboa chucked 5 wild pitches and committed 2 throwing errors on pick-off attempts en route to allowing 5 runs (2 earned) over 5 IP. In sunnier news, he also K'd 6 and threw 67 of his 106 pitches for strikes. Mike Yastrzemski went 1 for 5 and scored a run. Buck Britton put together a 3 for 4 effort on the night.
Frederick vs. Potomac (Nats) - Rained out
Ashville (Rockies) 2 Delmarva 6
David Hess had a relatively successful Low-A debut, allowing 2 ER over 4 IP and striking out 6 while walking none. The Shorebirds benefited from 5 Tourists errors on the night. But also fell victim to 2 Tourists outfield assists. Minor league ball, y'all. Chance Sisco went 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI. Anthony Caronia and Gregory Lorenzo had big games, the former going 4 for 5 w/ 2 SBs and the latter going 3 for 4 with a triple and 2 SBs.
Lowell (Red Sox) 3 Aberdeen 2
Stephen Tarpley was marvelous over 7 innings, allowing just 3 hits and 1 ER via a solo HR while striking out a 8, a career high. He did hit two batters as well, though. Baseball Prospectus' Tucker Blair was on hand to observe and shared these thoughts:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>LHP Stephen Tarpley 92-95 in 2.0 innings; armside run and life; flashing avg 77 CB; fluid delivery <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Orioles?src=hash">#Orioles</a></p>— Tucker Blair (@TuckerBlairON) <a href="https://twitter.com/TuckerBlairON/statuses/503322631240962048">August 23, 2014</a></blockquote>

The offense was punchless through 8 innings before getting 2 runs gifted to them in the 9th. Hector Veloz went 1 for 3 with a walk at the plate. On the bases and in the field were...more adventuresome, let's say. He was picked off 2B and committed two fielding errors, one while actually 'playing' 2B after the starter got himself run for arguing with the ump. Austin Anderson was held hitless in 4 at bats.
