The Tides were swept in a doubleheader despite two good pitching performances, while the Ironbirds got the stuffing knocked out of them.

Norfolk Tides 0, Durham Bulls 1 (11)

As game one of a doubleheader, this was supposed to be a seven-inning game, but it was scoreless through the first 10 innings. Starting pitcher Mike Wright did his job, pitching six no-hit innings before he gave up a single to Mikie Mahtook with one out in the seventh. He went on to a pitching line of 6.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K. Wright also took a no-hitter into the seventh inning on August 21st against the Bulls, and Mahtook broke that one up as well.

The Tides managed just one hit in eleven innings, a single by Francisco Peguero.

Norfolk Tides 1, Durham Bulls 2

Josh Stinson gave up two runs on three hits in the first inning, then settled down to pitch all seven innings in the second game of the doubleheader. He pitched very well and took the hard luck loss. Final pitching line: 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 9 K.

The Tides' only run came in the sixth inning when Dariel Alvarez doubled and then came in to score on a ground out by Henry Urrutia. Jemile Weeks reached three times on two singles and a walk.

Bowie Baysox 5, Altoona Curve 4

Nick Additon pitched seven shutout innings for the Baysox, giving up seven hits and one walk. He struck out five and had 9 ground ball outs. Marcel Prado blew the Baysox four-run lead in just 2/3 of an inning, but the Baysox came back with a fifth run in the bottom of the eighth.

Buck Britton homered in the game and Ronald Bermudez had two hits. Mike Yastrzemski and Michael Ohlman both went 0-for-4.

Frederick Keys 6, Salem Red Sox 4

Mark Blackmar gave up four runs, all in the same inning, in his seven inning effort for the Keys. That put them in a big hole, but the offense fought back with six unanswered runs.

Chih-Hsien Chiang homered for the Keys as part of a two-hit game, and Jerome Pena also had two hits. Adrian Marin doubled and went 1-for-4.

Delmarva Shorebirds 1, Hickory Crawdads 4

This game went into the ninth inning in a 1-1 tie, but the Crawdads scored three runs in the top off the ninth off of Donnie Hart, who gave up a single, a double, and two walks in the inning. That canceled out a good start by Bennett Parry, who pitched five innings with five hits and one walk. He gave up one run and struck out six.

3B Tanner Rust went 2-for-3 with a solo home run to account for the Shorebirds' only run.

Aberdeen Ironbirds 0, Lowell Spinners 9

The Ironbirds were held to just two hits, doubles by Stephen Wilkerson and Riley Palmer. Starting pitcher John Means pitched 5 2/3 good innings with only one earned run, no walks, and six strikeouts. But relief pitcher fell apart, giving up six runs in just 1 1/3 innings.
