Sunday Bird Droppings

The O's acquire two more possible pieces to a deep playoff run, find a way to win a tight game against the Twins, and extend their AL East lead to 8 games. That's a pretty busy day.

Happy Birthday to the Hall of Famer Frank Robinson!

Happy Birthday also goes out to to Steve Johnson and former Orioles Armando Gambino, Tim Raines, Jr., Tom Dukes, and to Ramon Ramirez, who tells me threw an inning for the Orioles this year against Texas on June 30 to close out a 7-1 win. I have zero recollection of this. It's the perfect Dan Duquette move.

On this day in Orioles history, in 2007, "The Chicago Cubs reacquire former hurler Steve Trachsel for the stretch run. They send Scott Moore and Rocky Cherry to the Baltimore Orioles in return for the veteran." In 2012, "Rookie Miguel Gonzalez holds the Yankees to 4 hits over 6 innings as the Orioles win, 6 - 1, and move within two games of the AL East leaders. Mark Reynolds hits two homers for Baltimore."

Pitchers did me a favor when they knocked me down. It made me more determined. I wouldn't let that pitcher get me out. They say you can't hit if you're on your back, but I didn't hit on my back. I got up. - Frank Robinson
