Orioles minor league rundown - 8/8/14

New, comments

The O's affiliates went 3-3 on the night, with Bowie and Frederick losing big and a nice night of offense from the Ironbirds.

Christopher McCain/Norfolk Tides
Norfolk Tides 5, Gwinett Braves 3

Josh Stinson had a pedestrian start, giving up three runs in five innings, but then Robert Coello, Ryan Webb, Preston Guilment, and Evan Meek combined to pitch four perfect innings with six strikeouts.

1B Christian Walker had a big night with three hits, while C Steve Clevenger singled, doubled, and walked. RF Dariel Alavarez went 1-for-4. 3B Jimmy Paredes was 2-for-4 with a triple.

Bowie Baysox 0, Trenton Thunder 9

Starting pitcher Anthony Vasquez was terrible, giving up nine runs on eight hits in just four innings. He didn't walk anyone, so...there's that?

The Baysox had seven singles on the night, with two each from LF Mike Yastrzemski, C Michael Ohlman, and 3B Niuman Romero.

Frederick Keys 1, Wilmington Blue Rocks 8

In his first start back with Frederick after a trip to the DL, Matt Taylor pitched 3 1/3 innings with seven hits and three runs allowed. His relief wasn't much better, with Brady Wager giving up three runs and Miguel Chalas giving up two.

SS Adrian Marin and DH Jason Esposito had two hits apiece.

Delmarva Shorebirds 4, Lakewood BlueClaws 2 (Game 1)

Bennett Parry gave up two runs in five innings to get the win for the Shorebirds. He gave up four hits and three walks. Austin Urban pitched the final two innings for the save.

DH Conor Bierfeldt, 1B Creede Simpson, and 2B Jeff Kemp were on an extra-base hit extravaganza. All three had two hits each. Bierfeldt homered and tripled; Simpson homered, singled, and walked; and Kemp doubled and tripled.

Delmarva Shorebirds 1, Lakewood BlueClaws 11 (Game 2)

Starting pitcher Dariel Delgado pitched three great innings letting two runners on base with two outs in the fourth. He looked like he got himself out of the jam, but a 3B Drew Dosch botched the ground ball to load the bases. The next batter up hit a grand slam for four unearned runs.

The Shorebirds got six hits, with doubles by Dosch and DH Chance Sisco.

Aberdeen Ironbirds 8, Vermont Lake Monsters 2

The Ironbirds had 15 hits in the game with all but one starter getting in on the action. RF Oswill Lartiguez had three hits and CF Jay Gonzalez, DH Austin Anderson, 3B Hector Veloz, C Tanner Murphy, and 1B Cory Segui all had two hits each.

Starter David Hess struck out six with no walks in five innings. He gave up just one run on four hits. Luc Rennie pitched the final four innings with one run allowed on a solo home run.
