With a week left to go in baseball's regular season and playoff spots getting locked up, the Vegas favorite to win it all is the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who you can get at 5/1. If you're looking to bet on the Orioles, they'll pay out at 13/2 - the fifth-best odds for a team to win the World Series, behind the Angels, the Dodgers and Nationals (11/2), and the Tigers (6/1).
That's not bad for a team that started out at 33/1 odds when the season got underway, which the Orioles did. That's one of the biggest moves in a positive direction for any team. Even as late as August 1, they were 16/1, so they've improved their chances considerably. Good news for anyone who is in on them at 33/1.
Not all preseason bets would have worked out so well. The last place Red Sox began the season at 12/1 odds to win the World Series. The Rays were also at 12/1, with the Yankees at 14/1 and the Braves and Rangers each at 16/1. There's a reason why they can afford to build and maintain so many expensive casinos. The house always wins. Just now it's not too late to get in on the Yankees at 300/1, though.
The Orioles have the third best chance of winning the American League, according to the present odds, with a 10/3 chance of taking down the AL pennant. That's behind the Angels (9/4 to win AL) and Tigers (3/1). It's another big improvement since August 1, when the O's were 8/1.
If you were a gambling person, would you jump on those odds? Do you think they're too high or too low?
