This could be it. The end. The final countdown. The Mets are down to their last game. Up until now they have not had an answer for the Royals brand of BABIP baseball. Perhaps there is no answer, only the yawning maw of oblivion that stands by, waiting to devour us all. Who needs sanity, anyway? It's overrated. Embrace the madness.
No. I will not, even if the Royals find themselves celebrating tonight. To hell with those guys. But I just don't know if the Mets can manage it. The deficiencies the team possesses on defense have made themselves manifest repeatedly throughout the series. It has cost them big. That's the way it goes. They can't all be the Orioles on defense - not that the Orioles even felt like the Orioles as much this season, but you know.
Even if for some reason you weren't on Team Not Royals to begin with, surely we can all be on Team More Baseball at this point in time. The offseason awaits, and at the end of that, the great tease that is spring training. All of these things are miserable. The hot stove season sucks, seeing players being signed and traded who will help teams, and then the Orioles roll up and their big move is they get Travis Snider, who ends up sucking. Will another two or three days before that really make a difference? Well, no, I guess not. But better to put all that off for a little while longer than not. Right?
