Orioles Minor League Rundown: 5-9-15

O's affiliates split the night, with two shutout victories and two close losses

Buffalo (Blue Jays) 0 Norfolk 1 (11 Innings)

A quartet of Tides' pitchers held the Bison to just 7 hits in this extra-inning shutout affair. Zach Davies K'd 5 over the first 5 innings, going inning-for-inning with one-time O Randy Wolf. It's a nice return to form for Davies after his catastrophe of an outing last time out. Nonetheless, through 6 starts his ERA stands at 2.30 with 11 walks to 26 Ks over 27.1 IP.

Christian Walker did his part to jump start the offense, recording 3 singles in 4 at bats. But the lineup following him was unable or unwilling to move him along the basepaths, going a combined 1 for 12. They finally got some breaks go their way in the 11th. Paul Janish pushed a 1-out single past the pitcher and off the Shortstop's glove. He was followed by a Henry Urrutia walk and a Nolan Reimold HBP. Scourge of the International League, Chris Parmalee then walked it off with a ground ball single into RF.

Bowie 1 Richmond (Giants) 3

Branden Kline put up a 'Quality-ish Start', going 6 innings and allowing just 3 ERs via 5 hits and 3 walks. The offense was stymied though, recording just 4 hits of their own. Not much to say other than that. Moving on...

Frederick 4 Potomac (Gnats) 0

Jarrett Miller swatted away 7 Gnats over his scoreless 5 innings of work. While Dennis Torres kept a perfectly clean sheet over the final 4 frames to put the Keys in the win column. Johnny Reutigger had himself a Birdland-esque night, going 4 for 4 with 3 RBI, a SB, while also throwing out an overzealous runner at the plate. He came into the game 'hitting' .177 and exited with a healthier looking .217 AVG.

Augusta (Giants) 7 Delmarva 5

Matthew Grimes got torched for 11 hits and 6 Runs over just 4 IP, but two Shorebirds blunders limited the effect on his ERA to just two of those runs. Conor Beirfeldt gave Delmarva a 1st inning lead thanks to an Earl Weaver Special. Unfortunately, that would be their lone hit with RISP, as the squad was flustered to the tune of 0 for 13 with 11 LOB in such situations otherwise. Alex Murphy and Jomar Reyes each K'd thrice in their hitless evenings. Jamill Moquete also took an 0-fer, but he did contribute via 2 walks drawn and an outfield assist.
