After yesterday's game there was a small subplot about whether Bud Norris would even be able to start this particular game today, since he was apparently rather sick yesterday. Would Brad Brach or T.J. McFarland have to be pressed into emergency starter duty? No, as it turns out, although I'm not so convinced that Norris will be well enough to do well - though given his performance so far this year I guess he hasn't done so well even when totally healthy.
It'll be a tough task for the Orioles today, going against Michael Pineda, who's been very good so far this year. Like, 38 strikeouts in 39.1 innings while only walking three batters good. That is actually ridiculous. 54% ground ball rate, only two home runs allowed, plus an ERA under 3 even though he's had bad luck in allowing a .321 BABIP.
That is a challenge for the O's to overcome. What it probably means is that there will be little to no margin for error for Norris. If the O's scratch out a couple of runs, that might be all they get, especially if Pineda manages to bridge all the way to the back end of the Yankees bullpen. The O's managed to keep Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller out of the game yesterday by holding a lead before the late-game, but those two pitchers weren't available anyway after having pitched the previous two days.
Now they've had a day to rest and if the Yankees are leading heading into the eighth, forget about it.
