The Thursday afternoon Orioles game thread: vs. Mariners, 12:35

The Orioles take the field against the Mariners on a rainy Thursday, looking to win this series against Seattle. Maybe Chris Tillman will pitch well enough to give them a good shot of doing so.

The weather sucks and so do parts of this Orioles lineup. Ryan Lavarnway gets a rare appearance, because the day game after a night game is prime time for the backup catcher to do his thing. Maybe he'll surprise us all and hit a grand slam. Anything is possible.

There is a decent chance this game won't even start on time. There's also a chance that it will be one of those games that they miserably play through the rain. The game may be miserable in any case, because Chris Tillman is pitching and the calendar is still in May. Also, Seattle starter J.A. Happ sounds like just the kind of guy for the Orioles to inexplicably not do well against.

All that said, the team somehow begins play only three games back in the American League East, and this game is a rubber game in the series. So all they have to do is find a way to win today and they've won the series, then it's on to the next one.
