Already in baseball today, someone has honored an Orioles legend. Reds manager Bryan Price was somehow ejected from his own game while exchanging lineup cards. Of course, when Earl Weaver pulled that maneuver, it was before the second game of a doubleheader after he'd already been ejected from the first game. No idea what prompted Price to get himself thrown out. It certainly wasn't the second game of a doubleheader.
I like to think that's a good omen for the Orioles today, though. Good enough of an omen that they're facing the Marlins, who've now lost eight straight and look to be an awful mess. They've got Giancarlo Stanton and maybe that will be all they need for one game. It's a safe bet that Mike Wright, making his second ever big league appearance, probably hasn't faced many hitters like Stanton in his time working his way up the minor league ladder.
One thing that could be a problem for Wright today is the supposed speed of the infield at Marlins Park, which we heard announcers mention several times last night. Wright's always been a ground ball pitcher and when he succeeds it'll probably be for that reason. This may not be the best place or the best time to have a substitute second baseman like Jimmy Paredes, but there's not much to be done for it in a National League park. Paredes, after Nelson Cruz went 1-4 earlier in the day, is the AL leader in batting average heading into this game.
If you can't find this game on TV, don't forget that the Orioles are on Fox today.
