The Sunday afternoon Orioles game thread: vs. Rays, 1:35

The Orioles have a chance to take this series against the Rays on Sunday afternoon. They'll need a good game from Chris Tillman, which is theoretically a possible outcome.

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Every day's lineup is a Sunday lineup when there's no Adam Jones in it. We saw one yesterday and, on the actual Sunday, we get another one today as Jones' ankle is still being rested. The Orioles are saying that it's not a DL situation for Jones, although Buck Showalter wouldn't commit to Jones playing tomorrow either.

On the subect of things that don't look pretty on paper, there's Chris Tillman's 2015 performance. He's starting today. He's only gone six innings or more in four of his nine starts, with only one of those starts classifying as a quality start. He's done so much walking that he could probably enter into a 5K race, and, as has been his custom, is also giving up a bunch of homers.

Oh, and the Rays starter, Jake Odorizzi, has basically been the opposite of Tillman this season. So that's encouraging.

The month of May will be a losing month for the Orioles regardless of what happens this afternoon, but if they manage to win today and win this series, they'll be 14-15 for May, which is close enough to a .500 month. That's not great, sure, but neither is anybody else in the division. Just hang on!
