Orioles Minor League Rundown - 6/14/15

New, 2 comments

The baby Birds were 2-2 yesterday, with wins from the Bowie Baysox and Frederick Keys.

Bill Vaughan/Bowie Baysox
Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Phillies) 2, Norfolk Tides 0

Despite eight hits, the Tides couldn't push across even one run in their game against the IronPigs. That is possibly because they had just one extra-base hit, a double by SS Rey Navarro. 2B Derrik Gibson was the only Tide with two hits, though LF Dariel Alvarez reached base three times thanks to a single and two walks.

Knuckleballer Eddie Gamboa started the game for the Tides in place of Tyler Wilson, who was recalled to the Orioles. Gamboa pitched five innings with two hits, two walks and two strikeouts. He gave up one run on a solo homer. Relief pitcher Pay McCoy also gave up one run in two innings, and Dane De La Rosa finished the game with two hitless innings.

Bowie Baysox 6, Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox) 3

The Baysox came from behind in this game with two runs each in the sixth and eighth innings to beat the Sea Dogs. Starting pitcher Terry Doyle went the quality start route, giving up three runs in six innings before handing things over to the bullpen. Neither Ashur Tolliver (2 IP) nor Andrew Triggs (1 IP) gave up a hit, and combined they struck out seven over three innings.

1B Trey Mancini and C Rossmel Perez powered the offense with home runs, the latter as part of  a three-hit day. RF Brandon Snider and SS Ozzie Martinez both had two hits including a double.

Frederick Keys 9, Potomac Nationals 7

The Keys scored all nine of their runs in the first three innings, then cruised to victory over the final six. They amassed 14 hits but just one for extra bases, a triple by DH Chance Sisco. Leadoff hitter Josh Hart had three singles and a walk, while RF Tucker Nathans, SS Adrian Marine, C Austin Wynns, and LF John Ruettiger had two his apiece.

Starting pitcher Jimmy Lee picked up the win despite an ugly pitching line of 5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 5 BB, 5 K. He was just pitching to the score!

Kannapolis Intimidators (White Sox) 3, Delmarva Shorebirds 2

This game was ended after seven innings due to rain, so I think we can all agree that given the chance the Shorebirds would have come back to win. Starting pitcher John Means got through five innings, but gave up three runs on 10 hits and a walk.

On offense, the Birds scored once in each of the first two innings before being shut down. LF TJ Olesczuk and 3B Derek Peterson each doubled in the loss, and CF Jay Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with both an RBI and a run scored.
