Mike Wright pitched so poorly last night that Tyler Wilson got optioned. That's the breaks sometimes. He also got himself optioned, but that was probably always the plan. Kevin Gausman needed to be activated in order to make today's start... honestly, guys, it's going to be terrible. Bless anyone, including the Orioles, who believes otherwise, because they're sure gonna need it.
One cool thing to come of all of this, or at least hopefully it ends up being cool, is that the reliever who got called up is Mychal Givens, who the Orioles originally drafted as a shortstop all the way back in 2009. That didn't work out, so they turned him into a reliever, a role in which he's enjoyed some success in the last couple of seasons. He'll be the first 2009 Orioles draftee to crack into the bigs. That's crappy for the O's, but congratulations to Givens for making it here. If he appears in a game before the inevitable optioning, he'll be the 999th Oriole in history.
Back to today's game, it's probably time to hit the panic button, because Adam Jones is once again not in center field. He is at least the DH, but the Orioles would rather have Nolan Reimold in CF on turf than Jones. That's a bad sign. Another bad sign is for Steve Pearce, namely that the Orioles would rather have Travis Snider play against a lefty than Pearce. This could get interesting, if not necessarily the good kind of interesting.
