The Orioles managed to steal a game yesterday to make sure that they won't get swept in Toronto. That's good news because the stars are not aligning in their favor for this game, starting with another Adam Jones absence from the lineup. There's also the presence of Chris Tillman on the mound, and the fact that the Jays starter is a former Orioles farmhand who never made it above Frederick here. Yikes.
But when you get down to it, you never really know what will happen. Kevin Gausman didn't look the grandest yesterday, and he wasn't, but he ended up being good enough to give the Orioles a chance to come back later. Gausman's been optioned, by the way, for Oliver Drake, so the team has an extra bullpen arm for a few days. Hopefully Tillman somehow pitches a complete game so neither Drake nor Mychal Givens get pressed into service.
I don't have high hopes, but then, I never do, and sometimes they surprise me. More than today's game, I'm worried about what's going on with Jones. There's an off day tomorrow, so this means two more full days off for him. Will that be enough to get him right in time for Tuesday? Here is hoping.
A happy Father's Day to all the dads around Birdland. Let's hope the Orioles win one for their dads and all of the dads.
