There continues to be a lack of Adam Jones in the Orioles lineup, a situation that may persist for the entirety of this series in Boston against the Red Sox. It's approaching the point where you wonder if they'll just have to put him on the DL, especially given that they will soon be making two roster moves with Miguel Gonzalez returning from the DL and Wei-Yin Chen returning from his brief Frederick exile.
It would kind of suck if the long-awaited Orioles outfielder roster move ended up being Jones hitting the DL. But, as Buck Showalter likes to say, you can't feel sorry for yourself, because nobody else is going to, either. All they can do is play the games in front of them with the players they have. In tonight's case, load up the lefties against Sox starter Joe Kelly. It might even be a good plan.
The Red Sox have been bad and they seem to be in a bad place that's getting even worse. This is the kind of team you need to find a way to win two out of three against, if not take a sweep outright. It's not that easy, of course, and the Sox do still have some good players even with all of their problems. They'll need to make the most of their chances against Kelly and they'll need Ubaldo Jimenez to look like he has looked early on this year and not like he looked last year.
Rain could end up being in the Boston area around when this game is scheduled to start, or not long after it begins, so prepare for delays. Hopefully the Orioles are prepared for a potential situation where Jimenez is forced from the game due to a rain delay.
