Norfolk 5 Columbus (Clevelanders) 4 (12 innings)

The Clippers scored 4 in the 8th to tie what should have been an otherwise easy-breezy game for the Tides. Pat McCoy gave up two hits to the two batters he faced and Dane de la Rosa allowed both inherited runners to score, along with two of his own.

But all's well that ends well, as Dariel Alvarez and Sean Halton each doubled in the 12th to put Norfolk back in control of the game. Alravez's hot June continued apace with a 2 for 6 night. Halton also had 2 hits along with Michael Almanzar (who doubled twice and walked twice) and Julio Borbon. Christian Walker took a 1 for 6 with 4 Ks. bah. Hey, remember Henry Urrutia? He went 0-5 with a Sac Fly and is slashing .267 / .331 / .372, which seems to indicate that he is basically AAA depth and not major league quality at this point. So it goes...

Tyler Wilson started and cruised through 7 shutout innings. He allowed 6 hits and walked none, but only K'd 1 as well. Eddie Gamboa got some late inning action. It did not go so well for him in a relief role. He walked 5 over 3.1 innings, balked once, and allowed a stolen base. But otherwise he only allowed 1 hit and no runs, and cleaned up the the 8th inning mess that McCoy and de la Rosa had created. So...I dunno. Whatevs.

New Britain (Rockies) 2 Bowie 9

Hell yeah, Parker Bridwell. I've always been a fan and I still believe. 7 IP, 4 H (1 HR) , 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 Ks on the night for him. If only he could face the Rock Cats every time...Over his last two starts (both vs. NB) he's gone a combined 15 IP, 10 H, 4 ER, 0 BBs, and 11 Ks. He'll turn 24 in August, and he probably won't pan out as a starter, but he could still factor into the O's long-term plans as a helluva 'pen arm. And that's a valuable commodity.

Schoopy dong'd a 2-run dinger in the 5th. Trey Mancini followed with his own 2-run shot a few batters later. Evidently the O's finally got around to signing Corban (Brother of Caleb) Joseph. He has a most unfortunate mustache in his profile picture. Tom Selleck or Burt Reynolds, he ain't. Anyways, it's cool to continue an O's farm system tradition of having the family together. (Bundys, Brittons, Schoops, Mike Flacco, etc...)

Aberdeen vs. Vermont (A's)

At the time of this authoring, the Ironbirds led 2-0 in the top of the 7th. (2B) Trevor Sprowl drove in both runs with singles in the 2nd & 4th. 19 year old righty Jean Cosme K'd 3 over 4 shutout innings, Kevin Grendell had K'd 4 over his 2 innings of work.

Check in on the Aberdeen final as well as the GCL & DSL scores here.
